Setting Up a Public IP to Access an On-Premise Server
Setting up external access to your QuickRoll, QuickCast, or Mini requires coordination with your IT department to configure a static public IP, port forwarding, and firewall rules that securely route outside traffic to your CASTUS server.
Setting up access outside to your QuickRoll, QuickCast, or Mini outside of your local network takes a few steps from your IT department.
NOTE: CASTUS is not responsible for outside access of your unit. This requires IT infrastructure on your network. The recommendations below may or may not work for your IT department as each network is different.
What You Need
- Static Public IP Address - This is usually provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) such as Comcast, Verizon, etc. If you are part of a larger organization or city/town, you'll want to go to your IT department for this information and ask them to set aside a static public IP address for you. If you are a smaller organization and your own IT department, you'll want to communicate directly with your ISP for this information. There is usually a cost associated with a static public IP address.
- Local IP Address of Your Unit - You'll need to provide IT with the local IP address of your unit. To obtain this information if you do not already know the IP address, please refer to the article Identifying the Local IP Address of the Server.
What to Ask IT
- Provide Access to Local IP Through Public IP - Your IT department will need to create a NAT/port forwarding rule that maps your public IP address to the local IP address of your CASTUS server using port 443 (secure HTTPS) or port 80 (insecure HTTP).
- Firewall Free Access - You either need to have the public IP address free of firewalls or create rules to allow traffic through to your local CASTUS machine.
