Restarting Channels, Inputs, Outputs, and Services
This article explains when and how to restart a channel, input, output, or service in CASTUS to resolve rare issues like missing signals or distorted audio/video.
There are a number of reasons you may wish to restart a channel, input, output, or a service. Please note that your broadcast and online channels may temporarily go off air when restarting an item depending on which item it is.
While these problems are rare, it's good to know what to do when things aren't working as expected.
To restart a channel, input, output, or service, head to CASTUS > Services and select the appropriate tab. Use the restart button to the right of the item.

When to Restart an Input
- If your source is running and your input is running but you're not seeing a signal in the preview or on the confidence monitor if live. Note that it may take a few seconds to populate the preview once an input has been started.
- You recently applied router changes and are not seeing the dropdown to select a route.
- Live captions are no longer functioning even though they previously worked as expected.
When to Restart a Channel
- If a schedule or other item is assigned to your channel but “Assigned Item” does not appear beneath your confidence monitor, consider restarting the channel. For single assigned items, such as a video or image, it is normal for the “Now Playing” status not to display.
- If you only see Assigned Item underneath your confidence monitor but do not see the item currently playing.
- You're having audio or video distortion on all outputs.
When to Restart an Output
- If you are seeing output to one source but not the other. For example, if you're seeing it properly on SDI but not to the cloud, try restarting the cloud output.
- You're having video and audio distortion on a single output.
When to Restart a Service
- CASTUS HLS Relay Service - After trying to restart the effected output first, restart the HLS relay service if your live channels on your cloud are looping the same 30 seconds and playing the wrong content.
- Avahai Multicast DNS - Make sure this is on when using NDI and restart if NDI sources are not showing correctly.
- Video on Demand Transcode Service - For Legacy VOD (QuickStream) users, restart the VOD Transcode Service if you're having trouble sending content to Video on-Demand.
- Database - If you are not seeing your user list accounts that were previously made, try restarting the database service. Older versions of the software will only have this option in the V4 interface.
