Live Translations

Utilize live translations to enhance accessibility and engagement for your live meetings and events.

Translation requires a subscription to either Live Captions or File-Based Captions and is offered as a single package for both live and file-based translations. On cable, you can have up to four languages for 608 captions and up to six languages for 708 captions, though cable broadcasters limit translations to European languages, not CASTUS. On the CASTUS VOD platform, you can include unlimited translated languages, including special character languages like Korean. If you send translated videos to Video On Demand, captions and translations will transfer with the file as long as the sidecar files share the same name as the video file and are stored in the same directory.

Setup

  1. Live translation requires software version 5.8.0 or higher.
  2. Navigate to your inputs by selecting CASTUS > Services and selecting Inputs.
  3. Select the Settings for the input you want to use.
  4. At the bottom of the settings is the option for translations. 
  5. Type or select the language(s) you want to live translate to and Apply your changes.

NOTE: The sequence in which you select your languages is important because of the limitations associated with 608 and 708 caption tracks.

Execute Translations

  1. Translations automatically execute when captions are enabled. 
  2. Navigate to your active input by going to CASTUS > Services and selecting Inputs. 
  3. Select the Controls button to access the recording controls.
  4. The CC icon under the record button will become selectable after a few seconds. 
  5. Press the CC button to engage captions and translations.
  6. Don’t forget to record your input, captions, and translations by selecting the record button or setting up a timer record to record automatically.

Replay Caption Sidecar Files

  1. Make sure the recording and the sidecar file(s) are in the same directory with the same name (aside from the file extension). 
  2. Schedule your video file as you normally would, and the system will automatically find the associated translated caption file to play along with your video.
