Leightronix to CASTUS
Transitioning to a new playback server may seem overwhelming, but this step-by-step guide will help you seamlessly play your Leightronix content on your new CASTUS machine.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Windows PC*
- Filezilla Client (free version)
- CASTUS IP address and root password
- Open access for FTP on your local network
- FTP Service enabled on CASTUS
- Leightronix Hard Drive
NOTE: A Mac computer is not compatible for writing to Leightronix, as this process can only be performed on a Windows PC.
ENABLE FTP ON THE CASTUS SERVER
- In the CASTUS User Interface, select CASTUS on the top left of the screen and choose Services.
- Select the System Services tab.
- Verify that FTP Access is available and turned on.
- If it has a green play icon, it is available and on.
- If it has a red square icon, it is available but turned off. Go to the far right of that item and choose Start.
- If it has a gray circle with a slash, it is not available and needs to be enabled.
- To enable FTP access, access your CASTUS via a connected monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
- Open the start menu and select the terminal emulator.
- Type net-ui into the terminal emulator window and press enter.
- Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select Services and press enter.
- Select Enable FTP service and press enter.
- Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select Main menu and press enter.
- Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select Exit this program and press enter.
- Verify FTP is available and turned on via steps 1-3 in this section.
CONNECTING TO CASTUS VIA FTP
- Open FileZilla on your Windows computer.
- Select File > Site Manager.
- Select New Site.
- Enter the following information on the General tab:
- Protocol: SFTP - File Transfer Protocol
- Host: LOCAL_IP_ADDRESS_OF_CASTUS
- Logon Type: Normal OR Ask for Password
- User: root
- Password: PW_FOR_YOUR_CASTUS
- Enter the following information on the Advanced tab:
- Default remote directory: /mnt/main/
- Select Connect.
TRANSFERRING CONTENT
- Disconnect the Leightronix hard drive from the Leightronix unit and connect the hard drive to the Windows computer via USB.
- Open FileZilla and connect to your CASTUS by opening the site manager, choosing CASTUS, and Connect from the previous section.
- The left side of the FileZilla window is your local computer and connected hard drives. The right side is your CASTUS server.
- If you haven’t created a content folder for Leightronix content yet on CASTUS, create a new folder now by right clicking on the right side of the screen (top two windows) and choosing Create directory.
- Enter the name of the new directory at the end of the file path, and choose OK.
- Double click the directory you want to copy to on the right side of the screen.
- On the left, navigate to your connected Leightronix drive and double click.
- Files on Leightronix will show as folders with a single file inside. It is recommended to copy the show folder in its entirety for ease-of-use. You can copy individual folders or the entire library from Leightronix.
- Drag and drop your desired folder(s) from the Leightronix drive to the CASTUS in FileZilla.
- The transfer can be monitored in the bottom window.
GENERATING METADATA & APPLYING TEMPLATES
- Content transferred over via FTP does not automatically generate metadata and will need to have metadata generated for it manually in the CASTUS User Interface.
- Log on to your CASTUS User Interface and locate the new content in your library.
- Your media will show with the episode title as a folder with a .f64 file inside the folder. This .f64 file is the media you want to generate metadata for and schedule.
- Select the dropdown to the left of the "fat64" file and choose Generate Metadata.
- Edit individual metadata by selecting the dropdown again and choosing Edit Metadata.
- Apply a template by selecting Apply Template at the top and choosing the template you want to use.
- Edit individual fields and save your changes.
- It's possible, based on the duration of each program, that inside each folder you could have more than one .f64 file. If this is the case, you would schedule both programs in your schedule editor, or use a Simple Playlist or CASTUS Cuts project for scheduling.
SCHEDULING LEIGHTRONIX FILES
- To schedule a file transferred from Leightronix, we recommend scheduling the file that will be labeled something similar to “fat64000.f64”, however you can always modify the file name to something more custom.
- In the schedule editor, navigate to your Leightronix migrated content in the library widget.
- Click and stick your content into your schedule as you would with any other media item and save your schedule.
