Changing the Root Password on the Server

Root is the main login to your server. Keep your password safe and secure.

CREATE A SECURE PASSWORD

We recommend changing the root password on your CASTUS server immediately after setup. It is recommended that your password be at least 8 characters long and include the following within the first 8 characters:

  • 3 special characters, e.g. @#$%^&*()_+
  • 1 capitalized letter
  • 1 lowercase letter
  • 1 number

CHANGING YOUR PASSWORD

NOTE: This process must be done locally at your CASTUS unit.

  1. Click the start menu and open the Terminal Emulator.
  2. Type “passwd” and hit ENTER.
  3. Type in your new password and hit ENTER.
  4. Re-enter your new password.
  5. Select ENTER and close the Terminal Emulator

NOTE: The characters will not be visible as you type your password, but rest assured the system is registering them.

To add additional logins with specific permissions, see User Accounts.
